While I'm {not really} on that break, I've just got to send you to Exemplify for a couple of things.
Happy Thanks Given 11/23/2009
SonShines, today I feel like walking away from it all. ALL of it. I want to strip away the world and its bids for my time and attention. I need to find rest in my Father and I need to see Jesus at work in, on, and through my life. Right now. So I will be doing just that. Enjoy the week and the turkey and live a life of thanks, given to our Almighty God. Thanksgiving isn't an offering we make one day out of 365. It is a way of living in the Presence of the King. Our Daddy, the King of Kings! Celebrate in Royal style as daughters to the King...and I'll see you Monday! Love and stuff{ing}, Victoria Thanks Given {from Exemplify Magazine} 11/04/2009
I enjoy few things more than a crisp Autumn day bathed in shades of amber, flickers of orange dancing about, the subdued hues of yellow somehow managing to rival the vibrant reds that pop amid the clear blue sky. The tricks, treats, and the Thanksgiving holiday, well…they’re just gravy, giblet gravy. We’re all sisters here, so I feel safe in admitting my audacity to presume that writing on thanksgiving would be easy as {pumpkin} pie. As the deadline approaches, our Father is slicing me a big fat chunk of humble pie…turns out there’s more to this thanksgiving thing than meets this simple girl’s eye. To take part in this month's Bible Study check out the new issue of Exemplify Magazine. Don't stop there, every article is simply awesome! Boast in Him 10/20/2009
I'm sure we've all done it. Compared ourselves to those surrounding us, I mean. Sizing up the competition, so to speak. I bet we've all entertained thoughts like, "If only I were her size", "Man, she's super mom, I could never do all that", "My hair won't ever look that great", "I wish I had what she has". Whatever you see as your weakness, you've most likely seen as a strength that someone else possesses. The need to compare ourselves to those around us is natural, but that doesn't mean it's conducive to spiritual living. What comes naturally is often linked to our sin nature, and living what we believe is what often takes the most effort. Thankfully, God is ready, willing, and able to help us carry that load! God never meant for us to play the role of coveter. He never intended for us to boast in our strengths or to label one another based on such things. Judging people, including ourselves, based on our blessings is sinful. Material possessions, natural talents, spiritual gifts, and blessings of all sorts are from above. Who are we to feel entitled to what our neighbor has? Why should we feel disappointed by what we've got in life when God is the one gifting us all? Just what does God have to say about our desire to boast in such things? That is what it boils down to, you know? We all want to be the best at something and be noticed for it, that's the essence of boasting; pride. "Thus says the Lord: Do not let the wise boast in their wisdom, do not let the mighty boast in their might, do not let the wealthy boast in their wealth; but let those who boast boast in this: that they understand and know me, that I am the Lord; I act with steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth, for in these things I delight, says the Lord" (Jeremiah 9:23-24). Not only should we not boast in our own blessings, but we shouldn't place importance on those of other people. Instead we should be shifting the glory to God from whom each good and perfect gift comes. Now that's something to boast about! Knowing the will of God, loving Him dearly, spending your days in Him, we can boast in His glory all the days of our lives! "I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God--what is good and acceptable and perfect" (Romans 12:1-3). Christian Being 10/09/2009
*A few changes after publication* "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance" (James 1:2-3, NIV). Praise God for grabbing a hold of my heart and my life and for changing me into a new creature--and praise Him for doing the same for you! When we accept the gift of salvation and we allow it to take us over, we are no longer a mere human being, we become a Christian being. I like that so much more than the term Christian. BEING implies actively doing, doesn't it ladies? It just speaks to the fact that we are currently existing as a slave to Christ. I don't know if that comes to life for you like it does for me, but man it speaks volumes! There are countless blessings while being in Christ, but sharing in His infinite wisdom, knowledge, and understanding are so beneficial to daily life and I'm seeing the need for them more and more. Love, patience, and peace are so key to being as Christ like as possible, but I believe they all begin with the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of the Lord and His Word. *When stepping into the pages of Scripture, prayer is the only way to gain the Supernatural wisdom essential to understanding God's Word.* I was recently speaking with my son, Maxx, about how every bad situation in life is actually an opportunity to do good. It's a lesson that I learned while in the middle of the most difficult time in my life. Three years ago I wouldn't have been able to help him to understand how he is a vessel of God's light in this way, because I myself was clueless to the fact. It was God's gift of wisdom to share the knowledge gained from understanding His Word that afforded me the opportunity to teach my son the way he should go. Knowing that he is a work in progress in the Father's hands has opened up room for loving him through the trial, being patient as he grows in his understanding of the Lord, and having peace in the face of the adversity that is a natural part of life. I'll be honest, I don't think I could exemplify God's love, endure with godly patience, or live with His peace if I didn't first reach for His wisdom, dig for Christian knowledge, and cling to the understanding offered through our Savior Jesus Christ! The best news? All of these gifts are in endless supply! Passing the torch... * Which of God's blessings are you reaching for most often these days? How do you make sure to be available to receive gifts from the Lord? Have you seen blessings flow from the scars of lessons learned? * |
